Riding on the Spectrum Kidz began with Leshaunda—a mother, teacher, and supporter who believes care should be shaped around the child. Their interests, comfort, communication, and sense of belonging matter here.
Our vision is Christian faith-based, Reggio Emilia inspired, and sensory-conscious. We see children as capable thinkers, makers, and explorers. Their questions help guide learning through play, art, movement, nature, and relationships.
We are preparing a warm family child care home where children with unique abilities, siblings, and typically developing children can discover together—with thoughtful routines and individual ways to participate.

The heart behind the ride

The promise at the heart of our care
My path has included putting school on hold so I could work and support my family. Later, I returned to school to gain the knowledge and training to better support my little ones. That experience is part of what led me to build Riding on the Spectrum Kidz, and I want to continue my education as I grow as a mother and educator.
As a mother raising children with unique abilities, including my twins, as well as my typically developing children, I know that every child brings something different to the family. They have taught me to pay attention, keep learning, and create an environment around who each child is.
I also know how hard it can be to find trustworthy child care. You want more than someone to watch your children. You want someone who takes time to learn their routines, notices what overwhelms or comforts them, listens to how they communicate, and cares about the little things that matter to them.
As a mother, I know the trust it takes to leave your child in someone else’s care. As a teacher, I value the questions, creativity, and discoveries that make learning meaningful. As a supporter, I want families to feel heard and children to feel understood.
I want to bring Reggio Emilia inspired opportunities into my community, where children with unique abilities and typically developing children can explore together. To me, that means taking their ideas seriously, making room for their creativity, and giving families a voice in their learning.
That is why I decided to create Riding on the Spectrum Kidz. The same thought I put into my own children's learning spaces, sensory activities, visual supports, books, movement breaks, and everyday routines is the thought I want to bring to the children in my care.
My vision is a place where a child can flap with excitement, take a quiet break, communicate with pictures, get curious about wheels, or dive into a favorite story—and feel understood. A place where typically developing children are just as supported, challenged, and celebrated, and where children grow together through play and kindness.
I am building the place my family needed: thoughtful care, a beautiful childhood, and a community where every child is seen as a whole person.

Our Reggio Emilia inspired approach makes room for many languages of expression: drawing, building, movement, music, spoken words, gestures, and AAC. Adults listen, offer materials, and explore alongside children.
We plan to observe, document, and revisit discoveries with families. A child's work tells a story worth understanding—not simply a finished craft to take home.

What does Reggio Emilia inspired mean here?
Our vision values children as capable learners whose interests help guide exploration. We plan to offer open-ended materials, meaningful art, nature, and opportunities to investigate; adults observe, document, and reflect with families. We adapt that inspiration to each child's communication, sensory preferences, and ways of participating.
Is Riding on the Spectrum Kidz open yet?
We are coming soon and working through the licensing process. An opening date and license information will be shared once confirmed.
Is this only for children on the autism spectrum?
No. Our vision is inclusive care for children with unique abilities and typically developing children, learning and playing together. We welcome conversations with families of autistic children and children with other developmental or sensory differences. Each family's needs will be discussed individually.
Do you provide therapy or ABA services?
Our program is being developed as child care and early learning. It does not provide clinical therapy or ABA treatment. Our vision is therapy-friendly care: families can ask about outside provider collaboration. Any arrangement will depend on family consent, provider agreement, licensing requirements, confidentiality, and our ability to support the care setting.
Will overnight or extended-hour care be available?
Extended-hour and overnight care are part of our plans. Final hours and availability will be confirmed after licensing and staffing arrangements are complete.
Where will the program be located?
We are planning a family child care home in Compton, California. Visit arrangements and location details will be shared directly with families when appropriate.
